France – Normandy and the Seine Valley

We have recently had a really enjoyable week staying near Louviers in the Seine Valley south of Rouen. We stayed in a very comfortable gite close to a small market village Acquigny

Chateau d’Acquigny

The river is very picturesque and really good for walking or cycling along the bank/riverside.

There are many local markets to visit and the larger cities of Rouen and Evreux are close by and just over an hour into Paris on the train.

Claude Monet’s garden is also well worth a visit, get there early and also visit the water garden a couple of times as the angle of the sun changes and the lilies come out in flower.

Claude Monet’s Garden at Giverny

Rouen is a lovely city to wonder with amazing buildings, independent shops, markets and parks/gardens. A whistle stop tour of Paris is also fun for a day with train into town running along the river.

This is a great area to explore for an easy break by ferry or via the Channel Tunnel with the car.
