Germany – Miniatur Wunderland, Hamburg

If you like model making, airports or want to see the ultimate model railway this is the place for you! We visited on a day trip flying from Heathrow, and we recommend that you allow at least half a day as it is vast.

The Miniatur Wunderland in Hamburg is home to the biggest model railway in the world, divided into ten sections and featuring 1,300 trains, over 10,000 carriages and covering more than 50,000 ft of track.

The models depict various parts of the world including the USA, Scandinavia, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and the streets you entered via in Germany.

The scenes change from day to night with lighting effects and there are a few surprises on the way round like Mt Etna erupting!

The airport section is a must see with amazing automated model effects as aircraft fly in and out. If you are ever in Hamburg this is a highly recommended way to spend a day.
