France – Skiing the 3 Valleys

Stunning Meribel

A three-hour journey from Grenoble will take you winding through pretty mountain villages, towards your first glance of snow covered mountains, wooden chalets and crisp blue skies.

You can explore and have fun at Meribel and Meribel Mottaret, two resorts that are ideal bases for skiers of all levels. For beginners, there are plenty of easy green runs that take you all the way down the mountain past Mottaret, where you can stop off for a drink in the sunshine and watch the world go by. Carry on down into the resort of Meribel for lunch and more drinks!

Skiers and boarders can enjoy 600km of well-kept pistes within the three valleys; Courchevel with its infamous Chanrossa bumps, Val Thorens and Meribel.

Meribel held the winter Olympics in 1992, the legacy of which is a full range of activities for non-skiers as well as those coming off the slopes. These activities include an indoor swimming pool, climbing walls, an ice skating rink, a ten-pin bowling alley and Turkish baths.

The pretty alpine town is great for shopping too and you can even take a helicopter flight over the mountains.

For a livelier feel head to Meribel with its bars, clubs and live music. Mottaret is lower key, with relaxed restaurants and amazing views of the mountains.

Mark Warner has two properties in Meribel: Chalet Tarentaise, a ski-in ski-out chalet hotel and Chalet Loden, a smaller, more intimate retreat.

Chalet Tarentaise lies in Meribel Mottaret in the heart of the Three Valleys and enjoys dazzling mountain views and fantastic skiing on its doorstep. The hotel offers in-house ski, board and boot hire which is only available to in-house guests and each guest is allocated a locker – ski passes are arranged on site.

Chalet Hotel Tarentaise

Chalet Hotel Tarentaise offers a full cooked breakfast every day and guests can choose from excellent à la carte menu in the evening. The social bar has an open fire and a terrace to enjoy at any time, with a drink in hand. Afternoon tea is a must have treat with heavenly homemade cakes to choose from. With flexi half board, experiencing the restaurants on offer in the resort is easy too.

Childcare with Mark Warner is some of the best you can experience. Children are well looked after with a crèche on site managed by excellent English speaking staff – a plethora of age appropriate activities are on offer for children aged 4 months to 12 years. Children are whisked off to ski school after breakfast and brought back to the chalet for a fun filled afternoon leaving parents to enjoy the mountains and a sore muscle massage at the onsite Viva beauty salon.

Snuggled amongst the pine trees with views over the village of Meribel and easy access to the slopes, Chalet Loden is a traditionally styled chalet with antique furniture, open fires and elegant rooms sleeping just 12 guests. Home cooked food by the resident chef and friendly staff make this chalet a lovely choice.
