Italy – Florence & the charms of Tuscany
Great place for a long weekend in the spring for late summer, Florence is very interesting and a lovely place to wander taking in the sights. The fairly new tram system makes exploring other parts of the city easy and is very cheap. Book ahead for the dome as it gets very busy.
We flew to Pisa and got the train to Florence which is easy and takes around an hour, the train services are very good and easy – we also did a trip to Lucca which is a really nice place to walk around the city on the old city walls or get lost in the narrow streets!
3 to 5 nights here makes for a really good stay, local food particularly away from the tourist areas was very reasonable. A walk along the river or the Palazzo Pitti gardens are nice to explore and great views over the cities skyscape.
